On this day and every day we have men and women accept the enormous responsibility to be first responders in their community. Paramedics, police officers, firefighters, rescuers and other trained members of organizations connected to this type of work. People doing the work no one else is capable or willing to do, often in a position that offers little recognition or appreciation. We may see them everyday in our community out of uniform and don’t even know who they are. We may not think twice about the service they provide to our safety and well being until it is our own calling that they are expected and relied on to answer. Ordinary people who do extraordinary things. Thank you all for what you do.
